Youth United Stockton (YUS) has secured funding to provide free of charge training to voluntary and community sector organisations delivering services to young people (aged 8 – 19 years) within Stockton-on-Tees.

Places on our courses are limited to:

  • Voluntary and community sector organisations delivering youth services to 8- 19 years olds within Stockton-on-Tees
  • 2 attendees per organisation
  • Places are on a first come first served basis

As part of our training programme, we are currently providing:

NOCN Level 2 Working with Challenging Behaviour

The course will be delivered over six weeks and learners need to be able to commit to all course dates and the required self-study. Attendees must also have current and ongoing delivery due to the need for reflective practice / journal as assessment method.

The course start date is: 17 July 2018, 17:30pm at Newtown Community Resource Centre, Durham Road, TS19 0DE

MODERN DAY SLAVERY

On completion participants will be able to:

• Explain what modern slavery is and the different types that exist;
• Recognise the signs/indicators of different types of modern slavery;
• Respond appropriately to a victim / case of modern slavery

YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID (YMHFA) ***FULLY BOOKED***

Learners will explore the most common mental health conditions experienced by young people and discover what youth workers can do to prevent and/or intervene when needed.

LEVEL 3 EMERGENCY FIRST AID

Learners will be able to treat casualties which are bleeding or choking, perform cardio pulmonary resuscitation and use an AED.

ENGAGING THE HARD TO ENGAGE & RELATIONSHIP BUILDING

On completion participants will be able to:

Understand what makes a young person hard to engage and how to quickly build engaging relationships either on the street or in the centre. Once established how do we maintain the relationship and overcome any barriers when challenging behaviour may creep in.

RECRUITING AND MANAGING SESSIONAL STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS

Recruitment can be costly in many ways. This session looks at interview techniques and making sure we have the right person for the job. Once appointed, how do we effectively supervise and respond to staff / volunteer’s behaviour and challenges? The course will look at many of the challenges we face as managers and supervisors.

We also recognise that the youth sector is very diverse and our training programme might not fulfil all of the training and workforce development activities of each voluntary and community sector youth provider.

As a result, we have ring-fenced a small element of the funding to enable organisation to apply for a £100 bursary to contribute towards the cost of specialist training or workforce development activities.
